I am writing to highly recommend Moe of NJ Design and Build for his exceptional work as a contractor. Moe and his team recently completed the construction of an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) in my backyard for my father, and the entire experience was nothing short of excellent. From the outset, Moe impressed us with his professionalism, transparency, and deep knowledge of the construction process. He took the time to thoroughly understand our needs and offered valuable design insights, and helped us navigate every step of construction with patience and care. The quality of workmanship delivered by NJ Design and Build was outstanding. The ADU was built with great attention to detail, on time, and within the agreed budget. Moe maintained consistent communication throughout the project and was always accessible when needed, ensuring we were informed and comfortable with all decisions being made. His crew was respectful and skilled, a true reflection of his leadership and standards. What stood out most was Moe’s genuine care for our family's needs. He understood that this ADU was not just another project, but a home for my father, and he treated it with the same consideration and integrity he would for his own family. I would not hesitate to work with Moe again and wholeheartedly recommend NJ Design and Build to anyone in need of a reliable, skilled, and trustworthy contractor. They truly deliver on their promise of quality and client satisfaction. Thank you Moe and team for a job well done. Sincerely, Christina Johnson Poway, CAPosted on Google![]()

Sorry for the long review but NJ design and build need to be recognized All their employees are very kind and respectful let me start with Sajed ( very kind and reliable. She took care of all city permits with hassle free on my end. She is very knowledgeable and knows how to take care of all permits).Moe has a very kind and honest heart ( it’s very rare to find a contractor with this beautiful quality) 1. NJ Design and Build handled my detached ADU from design to permits. They made the process smooth and kept me updated the whole time. No surprises, just solid work. 2. They designed and permitted my ADU and knew exactly how to deal with the city. Everything stayed on track 3. Professional and easy to work with. They explained everything clearly, took care of the permits, and the finished ADU turned out great. 4. I didn’t know where to start with an ADU, but they handled it all plans, permits, and construction. Made the whole process much less stressful. 5. Great experience. They managed the permit headaches for me and kept the project movingPosted on Google![]()

Engineering and permitting process was good and fairly seemless. Price was competitive and initial demolition was good as expected. Tile layer is skilled and professional. Some of finish carpenters, etc. we’re lacking experience and quality control as appeared to be a shortage ok skilled labor. Moe the GM was very responsive, flexible, and pleasant to work with.Posted on Google![]()

An Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) is a self-contained living space located on the same property as a primary residence. It can be used for additional living space, rental income, or housing family members.
The construction of an ADU typically takes between 6-9 months, depending on the design complexity, permitting process, and weather conditions. We strive to complete projects efficiently while maintaining high-quality standards.
The cost of an ADU varies based on factors like size, design, and location. After assessing your specific needs, we provide a detailed, customized estimate for your project.
Yes, permits are required to ensure compliance with local building codes and regulations. Our team will guide you through the permit application process to ensure everything is in order.
Yes, ADUs can be rented out as a source of passive income. We’ll help you navigate zoning and rental regulations to make sure your ADU meets all necessary requirements for rental use.
Absolutely! We work closely with you to design an ADU that complements the style and architecture of your primary residence, ensuring a seamless and cohesive look.
The cost depends on the ADU type, size, site work and finishes, so every project gets a written estimate after a free site visit. Our 2026 San Diego ADU cost guide breaks down typical build costs and City and County permit fees.
ADU rules cover zoning, setbacks, size limits, parking and utility connections, and they differ between the City and the County of San Diego. We check your lot and handle the permit application for you – see our guide to San Diego ADU requirements and permits.
Yes, in parts of the county. The County of San Diego has pre-approved dwelling-unit plans that can be used for detached ADUs in unincorporated areas. They’re about 85% complete, so you still need your site plan and project-specific details added. The City of San Diego has its own rules and doesn’t use the County plans. Either way, a builder still has to fit the plan to your lot, utilities and setbacks. We can tell you whether a pre-approved plan or a custom design works out cheaper on your property.
In the City of San Diego, attached and detached ADUs can be up to 1,200 square feet (an ADU created inside an existing multi-unit building has no maximum size). JADUs (inside the main house) are smaller. Lot size, setbacks and the ADU Home Density Bonus Program can change what fits on your lot, so we check your parcel first.
Cost and time are the big ones. You give up yard space, the build disrupts your property for several months, and your property tax goes up for the value the new unit adds. Some lots need sewer, electrical-panel or fire-sprinkler upgrades (detached bonus ADUs under the City’s density bonus program must have sprinklers). City impact fees don’t apply to ADUs under 750 sq ft, which is one reason many owners pick a smaller unit. We price these items up front so there are no surprises.
